Neurodivergent friendly photographer Melbourne

Inclusion and Diversity

Family of four one child with a disability in wheelchair

I am an Inclusive Photographer BAsed in Melbourne, Australia

It’s my intention to promote diversity and inclusion in my public images. As a white, middle-class, heterosexual and cis-gendered woman, I’m aware of my privilege and hope that I don’t take it for granted. But of course I’m still learning. If you have any feedback in regard to accessibility and inclusion, I’m happy to hear it. My pronouns are she/her.

I’m am an inclusive photographer in Melbourne, my aim for photography sessions is that everyone feels welcome, included and safe.

  • First Nations people are welcome. I recognise the Wurundjeri people as the traditional owners of the lands on which I live and work, and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.
  • Neurodiverse people are welcome. I have lived experience as a parent of neurodivergent children and understand that a photo session can feel overwhelming in ways that aren’t always visible.
  • People of colour, and people of all cultures and faiths, are welcome.
  • People of all genders are welcome.
  • Members of the LGBTQIA+ community are welcome.
  • People with disabilities are welcome, and I commit to working with people with disabilities, visible or invisible, to accommodate access needs.
  • People of all sizes are welcome. I’m committed to promoting body positivity and diversity.
  • People of any age are welcome. I celebrate life at all stages.
  • People with sensory needs are welcome.
  • Families of all kinds are welcome. A large group of multiple generations with several children and grandchildren is a family, and a couple with no children is absolutely one too. A group of friends can be a family, and so can a single person – alone or with their children or pets.*

Statement of Ethics

Dignity

I strive to represent people with care and integrity. By educating myself about the contexts and subjects I photograph, I ensure that my images respect and uphold the dignity of every individual. I commit to respecting privacy requests for any reason and to engage in conversations about where and how my images are shown.

Responsibility

I aim to make a positive impact through my photography. By reflecting on the potential effects on individuals and society, I recognise the power of photography and commit to using it responsibly. This includes talking with my corporate clients about their diversity and inclusion practices and choosing to work with clients whose values align with these practices.

Environment

I carefully consider the environmental implications of my choices, including the equipment and processes I use. I choose to carefully choose locations that I photograph at and take into consideration cultural implications for First Nations people and also the safety of my clients and the natural environment.

Editing Practices and AI usage

While I utilise editing and AI for technical adjustments such as colour, I promise not to alter the natural features of my subjects beyond surface/transient scratches or sores. Practices such as excessive airbrushing, altering skin tones, or changing body shapes are not part of my work. I commit to representing skin and skin tone accurately. I commit to being mindful of how I utilise AI in my work and to not alter anything significant about a person in my work.

Representation

I am committed to representing a diverse range of people in my work. This includes various genders, sexualities, ethnicities, skin tones, body types, physical abilities, and financial backgrounds. My latest work can be found on my Instagram.

Accountability

I acknowledge that a lived experience of a statement such as this one is a continuous learning process. When mistakes occur, I respond with humility and vulnerability, striving to improve and learn from each experience. Each session is an opportunity to critically examine my motivations, methods, and impact. I treat everyone involved with respect and kindness.

Family photography that works for neurodivergent kids

I have lived experience as both a parent of neurodivergent children and as a neurodivergent person myself. I understand how overwhelming a photo session can feel, both for kids and for adults. All families deserve great photography, and I aim to make that possible, even if your family includes people who are autistic, have ADHD, or experience anxiety or sensory sensitivities.

As a family photographer for neurodivergent kids in Melbourne, I offer sessions that are designed to be flexible, gentle, and responsive to your family’s needs. This begins well before I pick up the camera. I take time to understand what works for your family, whether that’s through email, voice messages, or anything else that helps you communicate clearly and comfortably (because quite frankly we all know many of us hate the phone!).

We’ll choose a time and location that suits your crew, whether that’s a quiet park, your own home, or anywhere your child feels settled. Sessions are unhurried, with room to pause, regroup, or change direction as needed. There’s no pressure to perform or behave a certain way, just space to be yourselves. Behind the scenes I work efficiently so that sessions aren’t overwhelmingly long or difficult.

I truly value open communication in the lead-up and am happy to adapt wherever I can.

I’ve done a few new things lately. I joined a frui I’ve done a few new things lately. I joined a fruit and veg co-op check out @boxdivvy guys they’re all over VIC and I’ve been super happy with the produce. Bit better than a random fruit and vegetable box as you can actually order what you’ll use. It’s kinda nice to make some neighbourhood connections. I also bought a myself a Manga to try after a tv show I stumbled to on Prime was just super delightful and I found out was based on a book, it’s called Hirayasumi and is gentle and slow and about daily life, connections to work and living - basically just normal people figuring out life. It’s wonderful! And reading back to front left to right is a kinda fun challenge. Sooo yes after a bunch of the school mums were like check out “off campus” I found this subtitled gem instead 😆🤣
When I was little, whenever stayed at my grandpare When I was little, whenever stayed at my grandparents my grandpa used to tuck us into bed SO tight - basically straight jacket style (because apparently that’s how you’d best sleep if you couldn’t roll around…) so my sister and I would lay there pinned under a sheet and an itchy woollen blanket in the most perfectly made bed and as soon as he was gone we’d start the enormous effort of wriggling free. He’d probably roll over in his grave to see my current sleep habits (although perhaps he’s tucked in far too tight 🙊) anyhoo… he was also possibly on to something. Grandparents are cool. And sometimes they have weird habits. Have photos with your people, people.

Had the delightful experience of seeing this littl Had the delightful experience of seeing this little human again at 3mths - her cheeks have just gotten bigger. I should probably follow this post with an image from the second shoot but hey I’m not that planned!

If you’re keen to book a weekend shoot prior to the end of the year July and Sept are looking like your best bet. Weekdays into summer the light is later so that’s an option too. Or pull a sneaky morning off school 😉

A few photos from the “It’s Andrew” Premiere this A few photos from the “It’s Andrew” Premiere this afternoon. This brand new kids show will be available to watch in Australia on @abckids June 1 - It’s Andrew is from the creative minds at @piratesizeproductions

I had with me a very tiny little flash (brand new to me) which did admirably well considering shooting in a cinema with only one light is a less than ideal situation.

If you are new to flash and want an inexpensive starter @godox_global IT32 is a very clever addition to your kit - with a magnetic base that converts to a trigger so your flash can be easily removed off for off camera flash work. Although perhaps shooting in a cinema with a stronger v1 might’ve been a wiser choice…. But hey when your sister calls you for a last min ring in 😆 of course you’re playing with the new toy.

Also: client sighting in the wild x5… including a completely unexpected past wedding client. My kids hated it 😆 (the me seeing people I know bit, not the show - they loved that)
