Portrait Photographer in Melbourne

Your AI Portrait does not feel real

Relaxed portrait photography for individuals and professionals

I’m a Melbourne-based portrait photographer creating relaxed, natural portraits for individuals, creatives and professionals. My approach is calm and lightly guided, designed for people who want professional images without stiff posing or the pressure of a full branding shoot and the realness of something not AI (No judgment, I know you’ve tried it!).

Whether you’re updating your website, refreshing your LinkedIn profile or simply want portraits that feel current and genuine, the focus is on keeping the experience easy and the images honest.

Portrait photography for professional profiles and headshots

My portrait sessions are designed for individuals who need professional images that feel real and natural. These photographs are commonly used for LinkedIn, Website About Pages and Media Features.

Rather than one fixed frame and one background, these sessions allow space for variety. We create a small set of natural portraits (with a few minimal props if desired) that will work across different platforms, with a mix of close, mid and wider images depending on how you plan to use them.

The focus is on approachability and authenticity. Images that feel current, professional and recognisable, without heavy retouching or forced expressions.

Sessions are gently guided, with clear direction where it’s helpful, and flexibility where it’s not. You don’t need to know how to pose or perform. The aim is to keep things simple so the images reflect who you are, not a version of yourself that feels staged or fake.

This approach works particularly well for people who want their photos to feel professional but human, not so perfectly AI generated, and who need images that sit comfortably across a website, LinkedIn profile and other online spaces.

Shouldn’t I just use AI to make my headshot?

As a Melbourne photographer, I work with business owners, founders and professionals who need images that feel both honest and professional. My portrait work includes CEOs, board members, consultants, copywriters, entrepreneurs, designers and builders, as well as creatives such as podcasters, musicians and actors.

AI is getting good and it’s an extremely useful tool, but real photographs – not generated ones, reflect your credibility, trust and connection, which is especially important where these values must also show up in your work. It matters how you present yourself to the world.

You’ll know when you’ve truly shown up. Being photographed brings confidence. Your expression, posture and presence are authentic, and that comes through. The value of portrait photography runs deeper than simply giving you one polished image.

With over 15 years of experience in photography and a background in communication design, my portrait sessions are relaxed and practical. I understand how images are used, and create portraits that work seamlessly across websites, LinkedIn profiles and other professional platforms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Many clients use their portrait images as headshots for LinkedIn, websites and media profiles. The difference is that the session allows more flexibility and variety than a traditional studio headshot without turning into a full branding shoot which requires more planning and props. These sessions are only suitable for one participant.

No. Portrait sessions are designed for individuals. Branding photography focuses on businesses, campaigns and working imagery. If you need images showing you working or creating content, brand photography is a better fit.

Once you book, I’ll send through simple guidance on clothing, colours and textures so you feel comfortable and confident without overthinking it.

Sessions can take place in your home, workplace, outdoors or in a hired studio or location if preferred. I can help you choose a location based on light and how the images will be used.

Galleries are delivered within 2–3 weeks.

Although my approach is for natural imagery, I will do simple touch-ups such as pimple removal, stray hairs.

Yes. Additional images are available to purchase after your gallery is delivered.

A few photos from the “It’s Andrew” Premiere this A few photos from the “It’s Andrew” Premiere this afternoon. This brand new kids show will be available to watch in Australia on @abckids June 1 - It’s Andrew is from the creative minds at @piratesizeproductions

I had with me a very tiny little flash (brand new to me) which did admirably well considering shooting in a cinema with only one light is a less than ideal situation.

If you are new to flash and want an inexpensive starter @godox_global IT32 is a very clever addition to your kit - with a magnetic base that converts to a trigger so your flash can be easily removed off for off camera flash work. Although perhaps shooting in a cinema with a stronger v1 might’ve been a wiser choice…. But hey when your sister calls you for a last min ring in 😆 of course you’re playing with the new toy.

Also: client sighting in the wild x5… including a completely unexpected past wedding client. My kids hated it 😆 (the me seeing people I know bit, not the show - they loved that)

Hello 👋🏻 for those asking I’m working on getting a Hello 👋🏻 for those asking I’m working on getting a canva template up for those wanting to make their own family photography social story and one for families so you don’t have to lose it in the depths of your instagram saved items. I’ve had a few minor tech things with my website (I feel like I’m back in my design days) slowing me a little but I’m hoping to have this up by tonight/tomorrow. I also think as photographers generally we need to start talking more about accessibility and our inclusion processes (and if you don’t have them, why not?!) so I’ll try do a bit more of that too and explain what I mean.
Here’s a social story to read with your child befo Here’s a social story to read with your child before our session. It covers what to expect, how the camera sounds, and why standing still and smiling on cue isn’t the only way to do this - because this is not how I work!

I made it for kids who are autistic, anxious, or sensory sensitive, though I hope it’s just as useful for any kid who likes to know what’s coming before they’re in it.

Pass it on to anyone who might need it.

(And if you have any improvements or suggestions please message me!!)

After many asking: Photographers you can now buy this as a template (link in profile)

A few of my current favourite things: @raye new a A few of my current favourite things:

@raye new album. Please listen from start to finish. I know zip about music but my jaw was on the floor and just wow.

Robin Hobb. I finally listened to @lauren_essi (it was you who recommended them right?) and started reading The Farseer Series. I’m burning through multiple big fat physical books which being in very much an audiobook season of life is quite something. If you’re after proper fantasy and incredibly rich characters this is it my friends.

The gym. Who knew. I managed to join one for the first time ever before I turned 40. I like the routine. My brain is clearer. It does still feel like it takes up a bit too much time and I haven’t quite got a “best time of day” to fit it in but I’m being consistent so that’s a win. I also have much less neck and shoulder pain which for a photographer is a win.

@todoistofficial app has basically changed my life in terms of reoccurring daily things that helps my executive functioning resistant brain to get things done.

Please share some of your current favs with me. May the list grow ever longer!
