Lighting for Family Photographers,
a Workshop with Jason Lau

portrait of jason lau photographer

Lighting for Family Photographers

Take control of your light and stop relying on perfect window light in your clients’ homes. Join us for a practical, hands-on workshop and learn how to use off-camera flash to create beautiful, natural-looking light wherever you’re shooting.

Jason will show you how to confidently use flash during family sessions in clients’ homes, as well as the techniques you’ll need if you’re starting to take on commercial work where off-camera lighting is essential. And yes, we’ll also cover the front-on flash look that all the cool kids are doing.

Led by Jason Lau, this three-hour hands-on workshop is designed for family photographers who want more confidence, consistency and creative control. There will be lots of time to ask questions and try things out. We have just 10 places available.

(We know Jason is the right person to teach this workshop because we’ve both learned SO much from him over the years).

Who is Jason?

Our good friend Jason Lau is a Melbourne-based commercial photographer with more than 15 years of experience creating fashion and lifestyle campaigns for local and global brands. Alongside his commercial work, Jason is a brand ambassador (we’ve lost track of how many big industry names, but he gets lots of free stuff) and lectures in photography at Collarts College. He’s an exceptional teacher who has helped photographers around Australia build confidence with lighting through practical, hands-on learning.

Who are Bec + Amy?

We’re Bec and Amy, long-time Melbourne-based family photographers who first met by mutually stalking each other in a hospital waiting room (we were both pregnant at the time). After awkwardly admitting it via Instagram, we became friends and later business partners, running a birth photography business together for several years.
These days, we both work independently as successful family photographers in Melbourne. We continue to challenge and support one another through the ever-changing world of family photography. Amy has an overabundance of ideas, while Bec has an unhealthy enjoyment of systems and admin. Somehow, it works.

The brief was awkward photos… and a whole lotta fu The brief was awkward photos… and a whole lotta fun. (And for self professed awkward people in photos - they really weren’t - except when they needed to be)
Their reception was a great big party with an excess of DIY from these creative souls, hand illustrated playing cards (each one different), pub trivia, arcade machines and lots of colour!

Congratulations @horriblehorris @peterwillpopp ❤️👀❤️ loved being a part of your wedding so much!

You can’t be mad at the dog 😉

Third image was shot through the marbles in a glass bowl.
