Commitment to Child Safety

I am committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all children and young people.
The wellbeing, safety, and dignity of children is always a priority in my work.
This business operates in line with the Victorian Child Safe Standards, and I take my responsibility seriously to protect children from harm, abuse, and exploitation.

Working With Children Check

I hold a current and valid Victorian Working With Children Check (WWCC).
This check is regularly renewed in accordance with Victorian requirements. If I engage any assistants or contractors who will have direct contact with children, they are also required to hold a valid Working With Children Check.

Scope

This policy applies to:
All photography sessions involving children and young people
All interactions with children, whether in person or online
Any contractors, assistants, or collaborators engaged for a session

My approach to working with children

Children are always treated with respect and care
I prioritise consent, comfort, and choice during sessions
Children are never forced to participate in an activity or photograph
I communicate in age-appropriate, respectful ways
Parents or carers are welcome to remain present at all times
If a child is distressed, uncomfortable, or needs a break, we pause or stop. A successful session never comes at the expense of a child’s well-being.

Supervision and boundaries

Children are never left alone with me without a parent or guardian present
Physical contact is kept appropriate, minimal, and only where necessary (for example, gentle guidance during a photo)
No private, one-on-one online communication occurs directly with children

Photography, images, and privacy

Photographs are taken only with parental or guardian consent
Images are stored securely and handled with care
Clients can choose whether images are shared publicly (for example, on my website or social media)
Children’s privacy and dignity are always respected in image selection and use
I will never use images of children in a way that is exploitative, misleading, or inappropriate.

Inclusion and accessibility

I am committed to inclusive, respectful practice for all children, including:
Children with disabilities
Neurodivergent children
Children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

Sessions are adapted to meet individual needs wherever possible.

Concerns, disclosures, and reporting

If I become aware of, observe, or reasonably suspect child abuse or harm, I will take appropriate action in line with Victorian legal obligations. Any concerns about child safety can be raised directly with me via email. Where required, concerns may be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Contact

If you have any questions, concerns, or would like more information about child safety in my work, please get in touch.

A few photos from the “It’s Andrew” Premiere this A few photos from the “It’s Andrew” Premiere this afternoon. This brand new kids show will be available to watch in Australia on @abckids June 1 - It’s Andrew is from the creative minds at @piratesizeproductions

I had with me a very tiny little flash (brand new to me) which did admirably well considering shooting in a cinema with only one light is a less than ideal situation.

If you are new to flash and want an inexpensive starter @godox_global IT32 is a very clever addition to your kit - with a magnetic base that converts to a trigger so your flash can be easily removed off for off camera flash work. Although perhaps shooting in a cinema with a stronger v1 might’ve been a wiser choice…. But hey when your sister calls you for a last min ring in 😆 of course you’re playing with the new toy.

Also: client sighting in the wild x5… including a completely unexpected past wedding client. My kids hated it 😆 (the me seeing people I know bit, not the show - they loved that)

This is the social narrative template, a social story to help your clients kids know what to expect at a family photo session - 14 Canva slides you customise with your own photos, name, and branding.

Families, I have something coming for you soon too. And of course you can always show them the social story I posted earlier.

Hello 👋🏻 for those asking I’m working on getting a Hello 👋🏻 for those asking I’m working on getting a canva template up for those wanting to make their own family photography social story and one for families so you don’t have to lose it in the depths of your instagram saved items. I’ve had a few minor tech things with my website (I feel like I’m back in my design days) slowing me a little but I’m hoping to have this up by tonight/tomorrow. I also think as photographers generally we need to start talking more about accessibility and our inclusion processes (and if you don’t have them, why not?!) so I’ll try do a bit more of that too and explain what I mean.
Here’s a social story to read with your child befo Here’s a social story to read with your child before our session. It covers what to expect, how the camera sounds, and why standing still and smiling on cue isn’t the only way to do this - because this is not how I work!

I made it for kids who are autistic, anxious, or sensory sensitive, though I hope it’s just as useful for any kid who likes to know what’s coming before they’re in it.

Pass it on to anyone who might need it.

(And if you have any improvements or suggestions please message me!!)

After many asking: Photographers you can now buy this as a template (link in profile)

A few of my current favourite things: @raye new a A few of my current favourite things:

@raye new album. Please listen from start to finish. I know zip about music but my jaw was on the floor and just wow.

Robin Hobb. I finally listened to @lauren_essi (it was you who recommended them right?) and started reading The Farseer Series. I’m burning through multiple big fat physical books which being in very much an audiobook season of life is quite something. If you’re after proper fantasy and incredibly rich characters this is it my friends.

The gym. Who knew. I managed to join one for the first time ever before I turned 40. I like the routine. My brain is clearer. It does still feel like it takes up a bit too much time and I haven’t quite got a “best time of day” to fit it in but I’m being consistent so that’s a win. I also have much less neck and shoulder pain which for a photographer is a win.

@todoistofficial app has basically changed my life in terms of reoccurring daily things that helps my executive functioning resistant brain to get things done.

Please share some of your current favs with me. May the list grow ever longer!
