Koole Family
January 24, 2019
When I first moved out of home, I lived in a bungalow behind Amelia and Jerome’s house. I was about 20 and Tom (Now 15) was only 3. Neve was definitely not in the picture. I wish now I’d had the courage to chat more with them – I was scared of encroaching on their space – they’re pretty great! So when Amelia got in touch (10 years on, and probably just as many house moves for me) I was thrilled!
We headed out with a game of Finska and had a super relaxed evening wandering with lots of kangaroos and good chats. I really, really love photographing teenagers. It’s a fascinating stage of connection and independence. My hope is that more families would push their idea of family photography past the baby/preschool stage and into later years. These moments are as equally important to document and much harder to catch naturally as a parent. (I actually to see what my kids are like as teenagers… as magic as they are right now. It looks rather fun… but hey, I’m not the one in it!)
